My work spans painting, sculpture and installation, exploring cycles of growth and decay. Things fall apart. The fact that those I love are destined to fall apart is at the heart of my work. It is a natural process, and I attempt to create harmony of this cycle in my work. I create landscapes that allow the viewer to enter my interpretation of this beautiful if harrowing experience.
My sculptures appear as root-like structures that are simultaneously thriving and dying. I treat the wall as a biological form, as a source to transform energy. Some pieces swell into corners, or spill out onto the floor, but all are rooted from the wall. With this work, the wall is not just a space to exhibit the work on, but is part of the growing system where the pieces literally grow inside and outside the wall, seemingly giving life to this completely inanimate structure.
